How to show a recurring event only once

Stop a weekly class or other repeating event filling your calendar: show it once, with Merge recurring events on the Setup tab.

Written by Piotr Poźniak

A weekly class shows up on every date it happens. In a list or cards layout, that can fill the page with the same event. Merge recurring events shows it once instead.

Turn it on

On the widget's Setup tab, open Events Filtering and turn on Merge recurring events. Click Save.

To let visitors see the other dates, turn on Show recurrence series on the Design tab, under Events. The event details then list the next dates in the series. See Google Calendar event fields: how each one shows on your website.

Which date the merged event shows

It depends on Limit displayed events, on the Design tab under Events › Number of events.

Limit displayed events

The merged event shows

Show all events for selected month

Once per month, on its first date that month

Show only upcoming events

Once, on its next upcoming date

Show [number] upcoming events

Once in each set of events, on its next upcoming date

Show current week events only

Once, on its first date that week

Show only events within this time range

Once, on its first date in the range

Example: a yoga class every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, starting Monday 2 November. On 3 November:

  • with Show all events for selected month, November shows it once, on Monday 2 November

  • with Show only upcoming events, it shows once, on Wednesday 4 November
