How to connect Google Calendar to show events on your website

Connect Google Calendar to Revisual, choose which calendars to share, and keep the events on your website up to date automatically.

Written by Piotr Poźniak

Revisual reads events from your Google Calendar and shows them in your widgets. Revisual only reads your calendar. It never changes or adds events.

Before you start

  • Sign in to Google with an account that can see the calendars you want to show. Calendars shared with that account work too.

  • Events from the calendars you choose can appear on your website, so choose calendars meant for the public.

  • The number of integrations depends on your plan. The bottom of the Integrations page shows how many you've used, or "Unlimited integrations".

Step 1: Open Integrations

In the left-hand menu, click Integrations.

Step 2: Choose Google Calendar

Click Connect Google Calendar. If you already have a connection, click Add integration in the top right first.

Step 3: Choose what Revisual may read

Under Scopes, tick the permissions you want to give:

  • Public profile is always on. It shows your name on the connection.

  • Calendar API lets Revisual read your events. Without it, your widgets will have no events.

  • Events Attachments (optional) lets Revisual use an image attached to an event as its cover image. To use it, you also need to share your images with Revisual. See Add event images from Google Drive.

You can change these later. What each permission does

Step 4: Sign in with Google

Click Sign in with Google, choose your account, and approve access on Google's screen.

If Google shows a checkbox next to a permission, tick it. A permission you leave unticked there is not granted, even if you ticked it in Revisual.

Step 5: Choose the calendars to sync

Back in Revisual, tick the calendars whose events you want in your widgets. Only ticked calendars sync. Everything else on the account stays private.

  • Use Search calendars to find one quickly, or Select all to tick everything.

  • Your main Google calendar is listed under your email address as Primary calendar. Leave it unticked unless its events are meant to be public.

Click Save and finish.

You can change your calendars later: on the connection, click ⋮ and choose Edit scopes and calendars, then open the Calendars tab.

Step 6: Wait for the first sync

The first sync takes a minute or two. When it's done, your connection shows the last sync time and how many calendars it reads.
